To update to Navigator 6 - you need to remove the old files from your SD-card. Install the tomtom software on your windoze machine, then when you start it will update. Then you run their bizarre software to copy over the program, a coupel of voices, and just the "USA and Canada" map. Downside - you will no longer have PuertoRico and Guam. Upside - more recent maps. There is a DVD pane and your SD pan.

Their software will confuse windoze (win2K at least) a bit and you may not be able to mount your sd-card without a reboot.

Install to the SD-card then get the patch from Palm at http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/gps_nav.html

(this also works for the 750) After you install Tomtom, it won't work until you copy over the three files from the patch.

It seems quite a bit slower. It might be best to install both the "USA and Canada" and a smaller one for the area you drive in. I haven't tried it yet, but the smaller file size might speed things up.

Notes on 4gb sd and 8gb usb treo 680 and 700

• Because people in the discussion at http://treocentral.com mentioned problems with high capacity SD cards in the 700 not being seen, and because they mentioned the Transcend 4gb card as not having this problem, I ordered two. It's correct, this card doesn't have the problems and some others do.
• AVOID ALL USB THUMBDRIVES WITH THE U3 SOFTWARE. This is some hokey scheme in which the card immediately starts going out on the internet and downloading stuff to your computer....
  • You cannot boot from these type thumbdrives because the first partition is a read only CD image partition with their stuff in it..
  • When they said you can take the U3 software off the thumbdrive, it was lie. There is now software that lets you do this at
    • sandisk
    • U3 I don't trust u3 - you should probably not assume that they don't install malware even their removal software.

• Transcend SD cards are the only ones I would recommend at this time. I ordered mine from http://mwave.com
