Talk:Resistor Codes
From Transwiki
I hope you realize that Patent Attorneys must have a technical degree in order to be registered and practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office. Therefore, we are trained in the scientific method and we think logically and ration- ally, unlike our step-brethren, such as the useless, terroristic, gutter-crawling, personal injury attorney. We try to protect the scientist/inventor, and his original ideas.

[edit] Admin note
The only people that I've known to make money off any patent are the attorneys. The Attorneys create no wealth or IP - they only redistribute it. The claim that patents 'protect' the inventor seems to only apply to huge companies - and a recent MIT paper did a good job of showing that patents, in their present form, slow down innovation - they don't help mankind at all.
[edit] What's wrong with ROYGBV? (the rainbow)
Why continue using that silly mnemonic when it's just "black, brown, ROYGBV, gray, white"? The color code was created with that in mind. It wasn't arbitrary, and so you shouldn't apply an arbitrary mnemonic. Think about it. --Anon
[edit] "The" mnemonic=============
Why offer only one? Personally I prefer "Bad Beer Rots Our Young Guts But Vodka Goes Well". Why not have a more comprehensive listing? If not for the note I would add others myself. "Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly" is hardly the only mnemonic out there and while I don't think it should be eliminated, it should either be correctly labeled as "The Transtronics endorsed mnemonic" or included with a more comprehensive list.

Note: I learned almost the exact same mnemonic when learning resistor color codes. Just because you have a stick up your ass about the word rape or ravish doesn't change the fact that it's a legit mnemonic. 74.94.241.42 21:12, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Nobody's GOSUTA except You, Ex-Lax. We just think the old Navy mnemobnic like our Dad's taught us has value in this article--the dirtier; the easier to remember.68.231.189.108 18:02, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Multiplier confusion
After going over this article, being a novice in the field, I still have little clue what to do with the multiplier band. Is it supposed to be 10^(color code)?
Yes, it is the same-BBROYGBVGW is: Brown = 10 0 power (1x); Black = 10 1 power (10 x); Red = 10 2 power (100 times); etc.
